Joseph

 Joseph of Nazareth, Jesus' Dad.

I stumbled across this statue in Burford in the Cotswolds in the midst of some wanderings. How wonderful to see a statue of Jesus and Joseph I thought, usually its only Jesus and Mary you see. On closer inspection, the little sign didn't mention Joseph, but described it as a depiction of God our Father. And lots of us struggle with that concept, for various reasons.

But someone once said to me the reason they thought Joseph must have been a Very Good Thing Indeed was because, when Jesus was trying to put into language and concepts we could understand as humans, how God loves us, he said - well, God's like a Dad.

Good old Joseph.
